Well October is here, and we’re ready for a good scare!

As much fun as it is to dole out tiny candy bars to adorable kids in cute costumes, we love to get out a few times during scare season for some bone chilling thrills. And since we love to keep things local, here’s a list of some of the best haunted houses, train rides, and combination events Wisconsin has to offer!

It’s hard to pick just one favorite thing about Wisconsin fall, but corn mazes are near the top of our list! Many’s a friend we’ve had over the years who rolled their eyes at the idea of wandering lost through towering stalks of corn. Once we dragged the unbelievers into the unknown, however, they always wind up being the first people to tag everyone when a new maze design starts showing up on Facebook.

reusable cup eco reduce reuse

It’s estimated that in the U.S., we throw away about 120 billion disposable cups each year. From styrofoam to plastic to paper, there are many types of disposable cups—not to mention lids and straws—that end up in landfills throughout the world every single day.  Now more than ever, many businesses and consumers strive to make […]

Have you heard one of the inspiring stories about someone going through a drive thru and when they pull up to the window the employee tells them, “The car in front of you paid for your order”? Oftentimes, the person who received the free meal or beverage decides to continue to pay it forward and pay for the order of the car behind them.

Those random acts of kindness are at the heart of our annual Take Time, Be Kind Campaign at The Store. The communities in which we are located are our homes and neighborhoods. It’s where we see our friends and neighbors every day. Our goal for the Take Time, Be Kind campaign is simple: to encourage you to spread kindness towards everyone you see.

The Store 6 Spring Activities

There’s nothing like stepping outside to a warm spring day after months of snow and ice. With another midwestern winter behind us, sunshine and above-freezing temperatures are more than welcome! Read on for 6 great ways to spring into the season and make the most of March.

P.S. – #6 is our favorite!

1. Go for a Walk 🚶‍♀️

It might seem simple, but there’s a reason it’s #1 on our list. Going for a walk is easy, relaxing and enjoyable. Get a little exercise and soak up the sun by taking a stroll around the neighborhood or on your favorite trail. Plus, you can make the walk as long or as short as you like – it can fit into everyone’s schedule, and even 10 minutes will brighten your mood!

P.S. – If you’re a dog owner, don’t forget to bring your canine companion. They’re sure to have a fetching time. Just watch out for those mud puddles!

2. Fly a Kite 🪁

If it’s a windy day, why not dust off that kite in the garage and head to the parkFlying kites is a fun activity for the whole family, and you know the kids will love it. Wisconsin has a TON of public parks, and they’re one of the few places you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the community while offering plenty of room to stay socially distant. That’s a win-win if you ask us!

3. Read Outside 📖

Reading is a great way to unwind year-round, but it is even better when you can do it in the sun! Grab a book, magazine or pull up a blog page (like this one). Then, find a comfortable place on a bench, your deckor a patch of grass, and you’re ready to go. Enjoy the calm sounds of nature and get some much-needed vitamin D. Don’t stay out too long, though – it doesn’t have to be summertime for you to get sunburnt!

4. Ride a Bike 🚲

Woohoo! The roads, paths and trails are finally free of snow. Well, mostly, anyway! Now’s the time to break out that 10-speed and go for a cruise. Enjoy the warm breeze, sunlight and exercise…it will be a breath of fresh air after a long winter cooped up inside. Literally! Find paved bike paths near you with this handy search feature on TravelWisconsin.com.

5. Plant a Garden 🥕

It’s time to let that green thumb of yours shine! Spring is the perfect time to begin planning and prepping a garden. Growing your own food is fun, rewarding, and a nutritious addition to your diet. Read this article for 6 veggies to plant in early spring. Or, if flowers are more your thing, check out this webpage for 25 spring-blooming flowers to spruce up your landscaping.

6. Enjoy Highlander Grog Cappuccino at The Store! ☕

Last but certainly not least, sip on delicious Highlander Grog Cappuccino! This seasonal flavor is available at all 26 The Store locations right now, and you won’t want to miss it. The medium-bodied roast features notes of hazelnut, butterscotch and rum, giving it a smooth and rich flavor that pairs perfectly with brisk March mornings. Plus, Highlander Grog Cappuccino goes well with the activities listed above. This popular flavor is sure to put aextra spring in your step!

New year, new you. You probably hear this saying (or see it in your Instagram feeda lot every time January 1st rolls around.

For many, the start of a new year brings new goals and resolutions. According to Performance Health, about half of New Year’s Resolutions include losing weight, exercising more, or eating better. Clearly, people care about their health!

But let’s face it: healthy choices are rarely easy, convenient, or the most delicious option. In today’s fast paced world, it can be difficult to find time to hit the gym. And, while we say we’re going to make a fresh, homecooked meal…well, drive-thru just sound a whole lot easier.

But here’s the thing: creating healthy habits doesn’t have to be a dramatic lifestyle upheaval full of 4:00 AM cardio sessions and kale smoothies. Small changes can make a big difference. Consider snacking on fruit or a granola bar in place of potato chips. Or, go for a walk instead of binging another episode on Netflix. It all adds up!

But wait, it gets better. What if we told you healthy options can be tasty and convenient? You’ll find plenty of good-for-you, guilt-free snacks and beverages in our 26 locations throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. Here’s a few items you can pick up at The Store that have been handpicked by a local nutritionist to help get you started:

Check out this short video for additional details!

We care about the health of our communities, and we want to support you as you work to achieve your goals. Offering healthy, convenient and tasty options for you and your family is just one way we’re making it easier to stick to those resolutions!

Now, in the campaign’s 8th year, the need is greater than ever. There’s no doubt the past months have been difficult for all. The year has presented many new challenges, especially for our neighbors in need. Watch our interview video with the Salvation Army – Stevens Point to learn more!

What initiatives will your donation support? The Salvation Army works to meet needs in many ways, including:

  • Providing shelter
  • Supplying meals and food
  • Supporting veterans
  • Offering financial assistance
  • Supplementing education
  • Connecting those out of work with job opportunities

…and much more!

100% of funds raised directly contribute to the Salvation Army’s efforts in your community. We hope you’ll support our Paper Kettle Campaign and help us relieve needs at the local level. And remember, you can donate your time, too! This holiday season, we hope you’ll join us in Doing The Most Good, Together.

No road trip is complete without a few fellow explorers to share in the experience. Once you’ve solidified your road trip team, you’re ready to assign roles.

The title of The Driver should be bestowed upon a responsible, even keeled, focused person. Next, an attentive and engaged member of your team can claim the role of The Navigator. This person sits in the passenger seat and helps direct the course of the vehicle. Pro Tip: the Navigator should also have great taste in music, because everyone knows The Navigator is also The DJ!

The remaining members of your team will get to hang out in the back seatOne of these lucky ducks will assume the role of Snack Distributor in ChiefThey’re in charge of handing out snacks evenly among team members…in between naps, that is!

5. Got Games?

Plus, nothing brings people together like some friendly competition!

6. Play some Podcasts
