The Store Celebrating Mothers Day Tips

Mothers are superheroes. They take on many roles and responsibilities, each dynamic and unique. Here’s to the birth mothers, adopted mothers, foster moms, parental guardians and role models in our communities. Don’t forget pet moms, either! Caring for fur babies is no small task. We can’t even begin to sum up motherhood in words, yet somehow mothers manage to juggle everything that comes their way. There’s no doubt about it…moms are incredible!

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. There’s no better time to treat your mom to a special day and make sure she knows you appreciate all that she does for you. Keeping safety in mind, here are a few fun ideas to help you show your mom all the love and appreciation she deserves!

1. Stop by for a Window Visit

It might not be possible to see your mom in person right now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still pay her a visit! Drive over to her place and stand outside the biggest window you can find. Then, call your mom and tell her you’ve come to the window to say hi. You can even surprise her with a sign saying “Happy Mother’s Day”!

During a window visit, you can have a warm conversation by phone while (almost) being face to face. She’ll appreciate seeing you and we’re pretty sure she’ll remember this sweet gesture for years to come.

2. Connect through Technology

If you live far away from your mom or cannot surprise her with a window visit, get in touch with her online! Many video chat platforms exist to easily connect people and can do a great job standing in for face-to-face visitsFaceTimeZoomSkype and WebEx are some popular optionsThis is an easy and safe way to include the whole family. All you need to do is send mom a virtual invitation and you’ll be chatting away in no time! And hey, why not make this a habit and talk with your mom virtually each week?

3. Send Her a Gift Online

What is your mother’s favorite restaurant, coffee shop, or store? Chances are good that they offer online gift cards that can be sent via email. This is a great gift option that will put a smile on your mom’s face while adhering to social distancing guidelines. Not to mention, purchasing gift cards is a great way to support local businesses during this time!

4. A Special Doorstep Delivery

If you’d rather give physical gifts, treat your mom to a surprise at her front door. After you’ve picked out the perfect gift, have it delivered or wrap it in a pretty box or bag and set it on her doorstep. Then, tell her to check the porch for a surprise! This can be done during a window visit, too.

P.S. – If your mom doesn’t have a computer with a camera for video chatting, that would make a great gift! 😉

5. Pick Up Her Favorites at The Store

With many local businesses closedincluding most florists and gift shops, it can be hard to find presents for Mother’s Day. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Stop by The Store for all of Mom’s favorite treats: chocolate, wine, coffee drinks, candy, tea and more. You can also buy a gift card at The Store…the perfect present for every mom!

However you choose to make this day count, we wish you a safe, happy and healthy Mother’s Day. Remember to make you mom feel extra special, because she is!

The Store Spring into Warm Weather Tips

The weather is warming, the birds are singing, and the sun is shiningwell, most of the time. Spring sure has a beautiful way of breathing life into nature. If you’re like us, you’re itching to get outdoors and enjoy the season!

With social distancing the new norm for the timing being, it can seem difficult to enjoy time outside. But, don’t fear – with a little caution and common sense, you can safely spend time outdoors enjoying the long-awaited warmth of a Wisconsin spring!

Here’s a list of activities to help you get outside and melt away your worries…we bet both will be a breath of fresh air! 😉

1. Start Steppin

Grab your sneakers from the closet and head out for a stroll! Even if your tennis shoes haven’t seen the light of day since last fall, you’ll feel great after taking a walk around the neighborhood. With a little mindfulness, you can practice social distancing on the sidewalk to keep yourself and others safe. Remember to make an effort to move out of the way for others instead of expecting them to do it for you…spread kindness! It’s a good idea to use face masks when you need to be near others, too.

2. Get Your Jog On

Once you find your stride, you might consider upping the ante with a jog or two. Whether you’re a natural athlete or haven’t had a proper workout since you chased your dog around the block in 2003 (a good reason to check with your doctor first), walking and jogging are both great ways to work on your fitness. You could make things interesting by challenging your friends to a virtual stepcounting competition. May the best walker win!

3. Bust out the 10-Speed

You know thbike that’s been hanging out in your garage all winter? What better time to take it for a spin! Biking is fun, easy on your joints, and a great form of cardio. Have we mentioned exercise naturally boosts your mood? We could all use a little of that right now...just another great reason to get moving.

4. Play Fetch with Fido

If you have a roomy yard or an open field near your house, bring your furry friend for an afternoon of fetch. It’s sure to make your dog happy. And let’s be honest, when they’re happy, we’re happy!

Bonus: when they’re all tuckered out, your evening will be a lot more peaceful.

5. Give your Sidewalk a Makeover

Spend a sunny afternoon outside with the kids and a bucket of chalk. The possibilities are endless: draw pictures, play tic-tac-toe, hangman, hopscotch, you name it. You can ask your children to create inspirational designs for the neighborhood to see. There’s nothing quite like the artwork of a child to put a smile on the face of passersby!

6. Green Thumbs Up!

With extra time spent at home, you can pay more attention to the flowers or garden at your house! Tend to your landscaping, plant vegetables, or teach younger family members about gardening. You’re sure to get joy (and maybe a few fresh veggies) out of it!

7. Did someone say BBQ?

Next time you’re enjoying a particularly gorgeous evening, have an outdoor BBQ with your family! You can do this right in your own backyard. Plus, everyone knows food just tastes better when it’s cooked outside. Don’t forget the Bluetooth speaker and yard games!

8. S’more Campfires, please!

What’s the perfect ending to a bright Wisconsin day? A good old campfire, of course! While there is a state-wide burning permit ban right now, small recreational fires may still be allowed in your area. Please contact your local fire department or officials for up-to-date information. If you’re able, enjoy a fire with your loved ones. And whatever you do, don’t forget the s’mores! Seriously. The kids will never let you live it down.

There’s no right or wrong way to enjoy time outside. As long as you keep social distancing a priority and are mindful of others, we can all spend time outdoors while we #flattenthecurveRemember, “quarantine” doesn’t have to mean “BORE-antine”! Sorry, that was cheesy, but we are in Wisconsin…

1. Have a Movie Night

Pop some popcorn and dim the lights, because it’s time for a movie! Bring the theater to your living room by settling in for a cozy movie night with blankets and your softest pair of socks. Whether you opt for your all-time favorite film from your DVD collection (maybe rewatch them all!), or streaming the newest Netflix original, you’re sure to have a great time with your family.

2. Connect with a Friend

While everyone is laying low, now is the perfect time to reach out to a friend, whether they live near or far. Even if you can’t see each other face-to-face, a phone call or FaceTime can make it feel like they’re right there with you. Take this opportunity to catch up and share a few laughsYou could even plan to watch a TV show at the same time, and share commentary over text or FaceTime. We bet you’ll be feeling happier afterward!

3. Catch Up on Some Reading!

Life is busy and it sure can be hard to find the time to sit down and read, no matter how much you love it. With some extra time spent in the comfort of your home, it is easto enjoy the company of a good book. Go ahead and start that novel your cousin recommended and get readin’! Nothing helps to escape stress of daily life like a great story. Plus, you can give your cousin a ring and discuss the book when you’re done (see item #2).

4. Tackle that Project you’ve been Putting Off

Okay, let’s be honest…we all have that project that we just “haven’t gotten around to”. Well, what better time to bite the bullet and tackle the task? Whether it’s organizing drawers and cupboards, deep cleaning the fridge, sanitizing the entire bathroom, or touching up the trim on your house, roll up your sleeves and get ‘er done.

5. Pets!

You know who will be super excited that you’re spending more time at home? Your pets, of course! Take this opportunity to maximize your time spent cuddling, petting and playing with your furry friends. Unless you have a goldfish…you probably shouldn’t pet Mr. Bubbles. You can get some exercise by going for longer than usual walks, tooMight as well throw in an extra treat…who’s counting?

6. Try a New Recipe

Remember all those fun recipe videos you’ve seen on Facebook and Pinterest but never got around to trying? Now’s the time! Whip out your whisk and oven mitt and voilà…your cooking space is now a professional kitchen or bakery. Put your culinary skills to the test, learn a few things along the way, and make a delicious meal or tasty treat for you and your family. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to post about it on Instagram!

7. Fun & Games

Entertain the whole family by breaking out your favorite board game. Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Monopoly, Trouble…there’s no wrong answer! If trying new games is more your thing, there are many free print & play game options online.

8. Find the Family Photo Album

It’s always a good time when someone brings out the family photo album. Spend an hour or two reminiscing with your family (and pointing out the awful outfits and hairdos of the past). Just make sure you play fair and make a truce…no posting the photos on social media! After all, it’s the only way to protect everyone’s reputation.
