The Store Have Fun at Home

The Store is here for you, both when times are good and when times are a little less good. Looking for lunch or dinner for the family? We have you covered. Long drive and need a quick pick-me-up? We have you covered. Practicing social distancing due to COVID-19? We have you covered!

The Store is a local Wisconsin-based business — our Associates are considered family and our Guests are our friends. Our communities mean everything to us. We understand firsthand the feeling of uncertainty right nowand we’re here to assure you that we’re all in this together!

By taking the proper precautions, we can all work together to prevent the spread of this illness. For tips on sanitary behavior and to see how The Store and our Associates are addressing this situation, please read our recent Notice to Our Guests

Along with staying safe, we have to find joy — and there really is joy to be had! So together, let’s take some time to focus on the great things in our lives. Here’s a helpful list of ideas to get you through all that social distancingsneezing or coughing into a tissue, and hand-washing…while maybe having a little fun!

1. Have a Movie Night

Pop some popcorn and dim the lights, because it’s time for a movie! Bring the theater to your living room by settling in for a cozy movie night with blankets and your softest pair of socks. Whether you opt for your all-time favorite film from your DVD collection (maybe rewatch them all!), or streaming the newest Netflix original, you’re sure to have a great time with your family.

2. Connect with a Friend

While everyone is laying low, now is the perfect time to reach out to a friend, whether they live near or far. Even if you can’t see each other face-to-face, a phone call or FaceTime can make it feel like they’re right there with you. Take this opportunity to catch up and share a few laughsYou could even plan to watch a TV show at the same time, and share commentary over text or FaceTime. We bet you’ll be feeling happier afterward!

3. Catch Up on Some Reading!

Life is busy and it sure can be hard to find the time to sit down and read, no matter how much you love it. With some extra time spent in the comfort of your home, it is easto enjoy the company of a good book. Go ahead and start that novel your cousin recommended and get readin’! Nothing helps to escape stress of daily life like a great story. Plus, you can give your cousin a ring and discuss the book when you’re done (see item #2).

4. Tackle that Project you’ve been Putting Off

Okay, let’s be honest…we all have that project that we just “haven’t gotten around to”. Well, what better time to bite the bullet and tackle the task? Whether it’s organizing drawers and cupboards, deep cleaning the fridge, sanitizing the entire bathroom, or touching up the trim on your house, roll up your sleeves and get ‘er done.

5. Pets!

You know who will be super excited that you’re spending more time at home? Your pets, of course! Take this opportunity to maximize your time spent cuddling, petting and playing with your furry friends. Unless you have a goldfish…you probably shouldn’t pet Mr. Bubbles. You can get some exercise by going for longer than usual walks, tooMight as well throw in an extra treat…who’s counting?

6. Try a New Recipe

Remember all those fun recipe videos you’ve seen on Facebook and Pinterest but never got around to trying? Now’s the time! Whip out your whisk and oven mitt and voilà…your cooking space is now a professional kitchen or bakery. Put your culinary skills to the test, learn a few things along the way, and make a delicious meal or tasty treat for you and your family. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to post about it on Instagram!

7. Fun & Games

Entertain the whole family by breaking out your favorite board game. Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Monopoly, Trouble…there’s no wrong answer! If trying new games is more your thing, there are many free print & play game options online.

8. Find the Family Photo Album

It’s always a good time when someone brings out the family photo album. Spend an hour or two reminiscing with your family (and pointing out the awful outfits and hairdos of the past). Just make sure you play fair and make a truce…no posting the photos on social media! After all, it’s the only way to protect everyone’s reputation.

Have any other ideas for having fun at home? We’d love to hear them! Share them with us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.

Stay healthy and safe. We’re all in this together!

The Store Convenience Store Healthy Snacks

We hope 2020 has been treating you well so far! What is your resolution for the new year?

Did you know that the most popular resolutions — every year — are to lose weight and exercise more? Clearly, people care about their health. But we all know it’s not always easy to eat right and exercise regularly. Life gets in the way…schedules are busy, time is short, and we are always trying to do more than possible. Because of this, we crave convenience. After a long day at work, it’s easy to skip the gym and indulge in some of your favorite comfort foods.

Because The Store is first and foremost a convenience store, we know all about convenienceand we’re proud of it, too! But, the fast food industry has instilled the notion that quick, convenient food has to be bad for you. What if we told you that’s not actually true?

Intrigued

We thought you might be.

So, what’s this awesome news all about? We’re here to let you in on a secret: there are plenty of quick, convenient, and tasty snack options at The Store that are actually very healthy. That’s right, we said healthy!

Thirsty? Let’s explore your beverage options. Instead of beelining it to the soda section, check out all of our delicious water and juice options. If you like carbonation, try a Bubly Sparkling water. There’s also Detox water, Vitamin Water Zero, and of course, plain water! Nothing wrong with the original, right?

If you’re in the mood for fruity flavors, give Orchard Pure 100% Orange Juice a try. Tea is another healthy choice, and we’ve got lots of it! Whether you opt to sip on Pure Life Unsweetened Tea, Kombucha, or Lipton Green Tea, we think your taste buds will love it as much as your body does!

And that’s still not all! When you skip the cream and sugar, coffee is actually a low calorie drink. If you’re a coffee-holic (you know we are!), try to slowly cut back on the sweeteners in your daily cup of joe. Try adding skim milk in place of creamer. By doing this, you’re avoiding a whole lot of extra sugars and calories, which, as we all know, add up over time!

Alright, you’ve got your beverage picked out. Now we’ll head over to the snacks!

Let’s start with the fruity side of things. In the mood for a cup of Dole Peaches or Mandarin Oranges? We’ve got you covered! You’ll also find Bare Apple, Banana, and Coconut Chips at The Store. These are packed full of vitamins and natural, healthy carbs and sugars…the kind your body needs to function! We’ve got many awesome granola options too, like Bear Naked Granola Bites, Nature Valley Bars, Kind Bars and Belvita Biscuits. Granola and grain are great sources of long-lasting energy for busy days on the go.

If you’re in the mood for a salty snack, trade regular chips for a bag of Lay’s Baked Chips. Because they’re baked instead of fried, there is much less oil and fat in these tasty crisps as opposed to traditional chips. Plain Ritz Crackers, Skinny Pop Popcorn and Snyder’s Mini Pretzels are also healthier snack options available at The Store!

If protein is what you’re after, we’ve got no shortage of that! Protein promotes muscle growth and repair and helps keep you feeling full longer…a win-win! Nuts are a great source of protein and healthy fats. Pick up a bag of Pistachios or unsweetened/unsalted Planter’s nuts. Chobani Greek Yogurt, Hard Boiled Eggs, and P3 Portable Protein Packs are additional protein-filled foods at The Store. And of course, meat is high in protein! Snack on Country Fresh Meats Smoked Chicken or pick up a Turkey Deli Sandwich for lunch.

You may have noticed we’re skipping the candy aisle for now…sorry! While candy isn’t the most healthy snack offered at The Store, there can be treats every once in a while! 😊

No matter what your taste in snacks – salty, sweet, savory, or otherwise – you’ll find healthy options you’ll love at The Store. We care about our local communities. The health of our Guests and their families is important. Making sure good-for-you options are quick and convenient is just one of the ways we ‘re helping to promote stronger communities. Eat healthier, feel better, be happier…we’ll help you achieve your new year goal every step of the way!
